There’s no shortage of apps that claim to be helpful or useful, only to fall flat when put into practical use. Well, here’s one that can help you, especially if you are a designer or someone who works with fonts on a daily basis.
MyFonts.com has a new app called “What The Font?” that helps you identify fonts in a graphic. If you have ever tried to figure out the name of a font by doing a search or ever tried to match a certain font, you know how frustrating it can be. The premise is simple – crop your picture to include only the font in question, and then upload it to the MyFonts.com website, or use their iPhone app.
You will be given a set of letters separated from each other, and the computer makes a guess at what each letter is. If the computer gets the letter wrong, you can change it to the correct one and submit it. After that, the app will narrow down the font to the best choice. Amazingly, it works more often than not, and it will save you a great deal of time when you need to know the name of a font.
